Kaspersky Lab launches free antivirus, to cover globe by 2018

MOSCOW, Jul 26 (PRIME) -- Russian antivirus software producer Kaspersky Lab has announced a global launch of a free antivirus program, called Kaspersky Free, which already works in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, China, and a number of Baltic states, the company said late on Tuesday on its blog.

Kaspersky Lab spent 1.5 years on the program’s elaboration, tests, and research, and drew three conclusions. “A free antivirus does not compete with pay versions, which have many additional features, like parent control, online payment protection, safe connections and privacy (VPN), which justify by 100% some 2,000 rubles for premium protection of three devices,” the company said.

“There is a great deal of users who do not have some 2,000 rubles for premium protection, and they are forced to install leaky hacks and even exploit Windows Defender, actively imposed by Microsoft.

“An increased number of Free installations positively influence the quality of protection for all users via expansion of the big data base for the machine learning technology.”

In 2016, the project was successfully tested in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and China, as well as in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden.

In July, the project will become available in Kazakhstan, the U.S., Canada, and most of the Asia-Pacific region. In September, it will be launched in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, India, Hong Kong, and Turkey. In October, the project will be offered in Europe, Japan, and South Korea. All the other countries will be added by the end of 2017.
